Crime in Newton Aycliffe has been slashed by more than a third, according to new statistics.
Figures published by the town’s Neighbourhood Police Team show the number of reported incidents dropped from 219 in April and May 2012, to just 139 in the same two months this year, representing a 37% reduction.
The statistics showed impressive falls of crime rates in the Woodham ward area as well as Shafto/St Mary’s and Neville/Simpasture, while crime in the Greenfield and Middridge areas dropped by only 4%.

Woodham Ward
2012: 16 crimes
2013: 16 crimes (43% reduction)
Shafto/St Mary’s Ward
2012: 69 crimes
2013: 28 (59% reduction)
Neville/Simpasture Ward
2012: 55 crimes
2013: 30 crimes (45% reduction)
West Ward
2012: 43 crimes
2013: 32 crimes (26% reduction)
Greenfield/Middridge Ward
2012: 24 crimes
2013: 23 (4% reduction)
