Tom Dearden 101 not out, Sam Telford 21 and Adam Gittins 12
Aycliffe’s first team hung on for a draw in a high scoring game away at Rocklifffe Park thanks to some heroic batting at the death by the two youngest members of the team. 17 year old Tom Dearden and 18 year old Leo Mercy, who safely held off the Rockliffe attack for the last nine overs to earn their side an unlikely draw.
Opener Dearden (sponsored by Kevin Burton, pictured above) was undoubtedly the star of the show, carrying his bat throughout the innings and finishing unbeaten on 101 off 150 balls. It was the first time in the club’s history that a batsman has scored back to back hundreds for Aycliffe and Dearden’s superb second century contained 17 boundaries and a six.
After six games, the first team have 54 points and move up a place to ninth in the second division table.
