Newton Aycliffe’s 1st team won convincingly by eight wickets at home to Barnard Castle 2nd XI in their final game of the season in division 2 of the NYSD League.
Off spin bowler Luke Telford (sponsored by Dean and Tina Greaves, pictured above) was again the pick of the Aycliffe attack taking five wickets for just 39 runs during a marathon 14.5 over spell in the sweltering heat..
When Aycliffe replied, captain Sam Telford was in outstanding form smashing the bowling to all parts of the ground and he reached his half century off 22 balls, only just missing the club record for the fastest fifty by two balls. Telford was eventually dismissed for 55 off 29 balls, including six boundaries and four sixes.
Aycliffe picked up the maximum 25 points from their victory against Barnard Castle, taking their final points total to 255 from 22 games played and they finished in a very creditable sixth place in the NYSD 2nd division table.
