Newton Aycliffe’s first team were unlucky to lose by just eight runs away at second in the table Darlington 2nd XI in division two of the NYSD. Aycliffe’s target was reduced to 185 in 38 overs by the Duckworth-Lewis formula due to time lost earlier in the game because of the weather and they only managed to get 176 in their reduced allocation of overs.
Adam Gittins (sponsored by BHP Law) put in an excellent performance with the bat, top scoring with 87 from 112 balls faced and his innings contained eight boundaries.
Earlier in the game, opening bowler James Layfield-Carroll was rewarded for his hard work when he took the honours with the ball, finishing with the impressive figures of 4 for 50 from his 15 overs.
Aycliffe picked up six points from their defeat at Darlington, taking their points total to 223 from 20 games played and they remain in sixth place in the NYSD 2nd division table with only a couple of games left to play.
