Lee Weldon with his weekly round-up from the wicket…
Saturday 13th July – NYSD Division 4
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Blackhall 2nd XI – weather was warm and overcast. Blackhall won the toss and chose to bat first.
Blackhall 2nd XI 96 all out after 37.2 overs
Patrick Howe 4 for 18, Adam Cayless 2 for 18 and James Brown 1 for 7
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 44 for 1 after 9.3 overs
George Slatcher 25 not and Joe Haines 17
The second team had almost certain victory snatched away from them when heavy rain forced the game to be abandoned as a draw with Aycliffe needing only 53 runs to win with nine wickets and 32.3 overs in hand. Leg spinner Patrick Howe was the pick of the Aycliffe bowlers taking 4 for 18 from 8.3 overs and George Slatcher (sponsored by Dean and Tina Greaves, pictured above) deserves credit for an excellent unbeaten innings of 25 from 35 balls, which was cruelly cut short by the weather.
Aycliffe’s second team still picked up a useful 12 points from this game to move them up to eighth place in the fourth division table with 95 points from 12 games played.
This week’s only senior cricket fixture:
Saturday 20th July at 1pm: NYSD Division 2 – Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Thornaby 2nd XI.
