Luke Telford 64, Sam Telford 38 and Adam Gittins 30
Newton Aycliffe’s 1st team were beaten away at table toppers Bedale by 40 runs after agonisingly just failing to see off the last three balls of the match which would have earned them a morale boosting draw.
Luke Telford (sponsored by Tina and Dean Greaves) continued his great season with another excellent all round performance with both bat and ball. In the Bedale innings Luke finished with 2 for 75 from his 13 overs and this took him passed the noteable milestone of 500 senior wickets for the club. He then opened the innings and top scored with 64 runs off 59 balls, including 12 boundaries, the fourth time he has scored fifty or more this season.
Aycliffe did however pick up eight bonus points from their defeat against Bedale, which takes their points total to 138 from 12 games played and remain in eighth place in the NYSD second division table.
Saturday 8th July – NYSD Division 4
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Northallerton 2nd XI – weather was warm and overcast. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Northallerton 2nd XI 175 all out after 39.4 overs

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 176 for 5 after 25.5 overs
Tom Dearden 97, Patrick Howe 27 and Jimmy Newton 27
Newton Aycliffe’s young second team got back to winning ways after an excellent run chase saw them defeat Northallerton 2nd XI at home by five wickets.
The star of the show was undoubtedly 16-year-old Tom Dearden (sponsored by Kevin Burton, pictured above) who had a tremendous match with bat, ball and catches. The talented all rounder finished his ten over spell of leg spin bowling with five wickets for 51 runs and he also held onto three catches off his own bowling. Tom then opened the innings for Aycliffe and took on the visitors bowling, hitting them to all parts of the ground. He was agonisingly dismissed just short of a deserved century for 97 off just 77 balls and his memorable innings contained 12 boundaries and five big sixes.
The second team now have 149 points from 13 games played after their victory over Northallerton and move up to sixth place in the NYSD fourth division table.
