Saturday 24th June – NYSD Division 2
Maltby 1st XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was hot and sunny. Maltby won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Newton Aycliffe had an epic two run victory away at Maltby 1st XI in an extraordinary game in the NYSD 2nd division.
Sam Telford (sponsored by The Fairhursts) batted superbly top scoring with 61 off 48 balls and his innings included seven boundaries and two sixes.
Matty Greaves (pictured in action above) lead the way with the ball taking a season’s best 5 for 63 from 15 overs and James Layfield-Carroll also bowled well taking the vital tenth Maltby wicket to give his side victory in a very tense finale.
Special mention must go the club stalwart Chris Palmer who played his 700th senior game for Aycliffe and also to Luke Telford who’s innings of 39 took him past 5,000 runs for the club, great achievements for both players.
Aycliffe picked up a vital 25 points from their win at Maltby and have now accrued 110 points from ten games played and move up to eighth place in the NYSD 2nd division table.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 196 for 94 after 38.4 overs

Newton Aycliffe’s second team somehow snatched an unlikely victory from the jaws of defeat thanks to a magnificent unbeaten 63 from Dan Heaton (sponsored by Ian Hatty Hannant) and a nerve jangling unbroken tenth wicket partnership of 40 between Heaton and Leo Stout (16 not out).
16 year old Dan Heaton batted heroically for Aycliffe, reaching his first senior half century, eventually finishing with 63 not out off just 40 balls and his match changing innings, included eight boundaries and three big sixes.
The second team earned the full 25 points from their memorable win against Maltby and they have now accrued 126 points from 12 games played and consolidate eighth place in the NYSD fourth division table.
