Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Middlesbrough 2nd XI – weather was warm and sunny. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first.

Aycliffe lost a very tight game at home to Middlesbrough by just three wickets with only 1.4 overs of the game left to play.
James Layfield-Carroll (sponsored by Yvonne and Bob Wood, pictured above) put in a superb individual all round performance. Firstly scoring a personal best 41 runs from just 28 balls faced and his innings contained eight boundaries, then when the visitors batted, he got to work with the ball finishing with the outstanding bowling figures of 5 for 53 from 12.2 overs.
Special mention must also go to Joe Teasdale who followed up last week’s score of 90 by again top scoring for Aycliffe, this time reaching 64 from 74 balls faced and his innings included seven boundaries and four sixes.
At the half way stage of the season, this defeat leaves Aycliffe with 145 points from 11 games and they drop down a place to seventh on the table.
