Saturday 4th May – NYSD Division 2
Thornaby 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was very cold and windy. Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Thornaby 2nd XI 263 for 5 declared after 48 overs
James Layfield-Carroll 4 for 44 and Sam Telford 1 for 44
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 95 all out after 41.5 overs

Aycliffe remain winless after four games of the new season when they were soundly beaten away at Thornaby 2nd XI by 168 runs. Fast bowler James Layfield-Carroll (sponsored by Signature Tiling) was the pick of the Aycliffe bowlers with the excellent figures of 4 for 44 from his 12 overs despite feeling unwell on the day.
After four games, Aycliffe have two draws, two defeats and 34 points and sit in 9th place in the NYSD 2nd division table.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Guisborough 2nd XI – weather was very cold and windy. Guisborough won the toss and chose to bat first.

Iain Robson 2 for 45, David Robinson 1 for 36 and Leo Mercy 1 for 52
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 135 for 4 after 40 overs
Joe Haines 55, James Brown 33 and Dan Bowmer 17 not out
Aycliffe young second team put in an excellent performance to earn a well deserved draw at home to Guisborough 2nd XI. Captain Joe Haines (sponsored by Pheonix Energy, pictured above) batted superbly in the Aycliffe reply scoring 55 from 89 balls and he hit nine well timed boundaries in his innings. Special mention must go to both, 15 year old debutant Iain Robson who opened the bowling for Aycliffe and finished his ten overs with 2 wickets for 45 runs and also to 13 year old Leo Mercy who opened the bowling taking 1 for 52 and then batted well scoring 4 from 33 balls.
