Morpeth Town 5, Newton Aycliffe 0
Newton Aycliffe FC’s disappointing recent league form continued with a 5-0 defeat at Morpeth Town on Saturday.
After a good midweek win against Bishop Auckland in the Durham Challenge Cup hopes were high that Aycliffe could repeat last season’s wins over the FA Vase holders.
However, they never really threatened to rob the Highwaymen.
Morpeth had an early chance when, after eight minutes, they had a free kick on the wing which was headed over the crossbar.
The first half hour saw end to end play but with neither keeper tested.
It was Morpeth, though, who were looking the more threatening and their first goal came after 31 minutes.
A free kick was played to the left wing, led to a cross into the box where Mark Davison fired past James Winter.
Three minutes later Winter pulled off a great save diving to his right as Morpeth piled on the pressure.
Aycliffe tried to respond with a 25-yard shot from Zak Boagey just wide.
However it was only a brief respite and Winter had to perform more heroics before halftime.
The second half didn’t improve for Aycliffe with Morpeth scoring their second just after the hour with a header from Davison.
Ten minutes later they made it 3-0 through Henderson, then a fourth a minute later from Sayer. Davison completed his hat trick in the last minute.
Aycliffe will be looking to revert to the good form they showed early season when they play home games against Dunston on Tuesday and Ryhope Colliery Welfare on Saturday, November 5.
Meanwhile Aycliffe have been drawn at home to Worksop Town in the second round of the Buildbase FA Vase. That game will be played at Moore Lane on Saturday November 12, kick-off 3pm.
