Several community groups gathered to create a special pop-up shop in Aycliffe town centre last weekend.
Organisations including Neville Community Association, Acorn Community Association, Junction 7, Junior Neighbourhood Watch, New friends New Places and Horndale Community Association held it to showcase the great work they carry out across the town for the benefit of others.
A group of young adults from the National Citizenship Scheme joined for the day as part of their work during the summer holidays and raised approximately £150 for the charity If you Care Share.
“Lots of people attended the event and found out about the activities and projects the groups carry out,” said Horndale Community Association chair Philip Clark.
“The groups were successful in securing funding for the event so there was free face painting, balloon modelling and gifts for all the family.
“Newton Aycliffe is very lucky to have many groups working in our town delivering many activities and projects.
“There are more groups than those involved in this event, I believe that there is no other town comparable in size that has some many great organizations working to improve the lives of others.
“Thank you to Great Aycliffe Town Council and the towns seven County Councillors Adams, Atkinson, Clare, Durham, Hopper, Howell and Iveson.”
