Hebburn Town 1, Newton Aycliffe 3
By Dave Strickland
Newton Aycliffe travelled to third placed Hebburn Town and came away with a well-deserved 3-1 win.
They were the better side throughout the match. They went ahead on eleven minutes when Vincent Gash latched onto a James Winter kick downfield and finished smartly past Hebburn keeper Jennison.
Ayclife were playing well and doubled the lead six minutes later. Man-of-the-match Gash had a shot charged down, but it ran wide to Shaun Hudson, who executed a great finish from the tightest of angles.
Hebburn had their first chance on 43 minutes when a long range shot from Fairley was comfortably dealt with by James Winter.
Winter made a fine double save right on half time, as the home side tried to get back into the game.
Aycliffe’s domination continued in the second half though, with Tom Gavin and Dan Mitton coming close to increasing the lead.
Hebburn had a spell of pressure; Winter made a great save from a Carson free kick and then Storey hit the bar for Hebburn on 78 minutes.
However, two minutes later, Aycliffe sealed the win when substitute Matty Pennal outpaced his marker and hit a fine strike past Jennison into the far corner of the net for 3-0.
Hebburn got a consolation goal in the fifth minute of injury-time, when Armstrong headed home a cross.
Aycliffe’s next match is away to Durham (at Willington) on Tuesday (October 23), followed by Consett at home on Saturday (October 27).
