Newton Aycliffe 3, Ashington 0
Peter Dixon’s Newtonians bounced back from Saturday’s disappointment at Shildon to record their third 3-0 victory in their past four outings.
In a game which saw wind and snow batter the AuxAudio Stadium, goals from Stuart Banks and a Jordan Laidler double sealed the points against Ashington.
Former Sunderland man Laidler opened the scoring in the opening minutes when he finished cutely following good work from Paul Garthwaite.
Banks added a second from the penalty spot just before the break to make Dixon’s half-time team talk all the easier.
Ashington offered little in trying to get back into the game and with 10 minutes remaining Laidler grabbed his fourth goal of the week as he curled a fine free kick into the top corner of the net.
Aycliffe remain 17th in the table, but now hold a nine-point advantage over Celtic Nation who occupy the final relegation slot.
