Newton Aycliffe began their defence of the Durham Challenge Cup with victory over derby rivals Bishop Auckland this week.
The Newtonians, who lifted the trophy with a win over West Auckland in the summer, beat Bishops 3-1 at Moore Lane Park on Tuesday night to progress.
Peter Dixon’s side have been dawn at home to Brandon in the second round.
Aycliffe now hope to get their league campaign back on track this weekend after four straight defeats which has seen them slip to sixth in the Northern League first division.
After a promising start to the 2016-17 season, the Blues have lost to Shildon, Whitley Bay, Sunderland RCA and Ashington in recent weeks.
They go to third-placed Morpeth Town on Saturday (3pm kick-off) aiming to halt the slide.
