Ryton & Crawcrook Albion 0, Newton Aycliffe 6
By Bob Wood
Newton Aycliffe progressed to the second round of the Durham Challenge Cup thanks to a 6-0 win at Ryton & Crawcrook Albion last week.
It was a dominant display from the Newtonians but it took 27 minutes to get the first goal with Jake Petitjean scoring from the penalty spot. Liam Jarvie added a second before half time.
The second half saw Aycliffe run away with the game. Liam Adamson scored just 14 seconds after the referee blew the whistle to start the second half.
Home resistance crumbled as Callum Munro and Ben Reay added two more in the next ten minutes.
The final goal was scored by 16-year-old substitute Zack Blythe (pictured above by Yvonne Wood), who found the net to score the sixth 11 minutes from time.
Blythe, along with Jack Clarkson and Charlie Dawson, showed the quality coming through to the senior team from the Newton Aycliffe Junior ranks.
The win gave Aycliffe a home draw against Northern Premier League side Consett in the next round.
That game will be played at the SecuriCorp Stadium on Tuesday, November 15 (kick off 7:30pm).
Aycliffe have a 10-day break with their next game being on Saturday, October 22, in the Isuzu FA Vase.
That match sees them visit Newcastle Benfield, now managed by former Aycliffe boss Colin Stromsoy. His side features several former Aycliffe players.
The two sides last met on the opening day of the season with Brian Atkinson’s side running out 2-1 winners.
Aycliffe return to Ebac Northern League action on Saturday, October 29, when Carlisle City will be the visitors to Moore Lane with fellow Cumbrians Penrith following them over the A66 a week later.
