Saturday 25th May – NYSD Division 2
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Norton 1st XI – weather was showery and overcast. Norton won the toss and chose to bat first.
Norton 1st XI 139 for 9 after 50 overs
Michael Howe 4 for 32, Luke Telford 3 for 21 and Patrick Howe 1 for 9
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 141 for 5 after 33.5 overs
Adam Randall 58 not out, Chris Palmer 20 and Luke Telford 16
Aycliffe’s first team got back to winning ways in the league with a tough five wicket victory at home to Norton 1st XI. Adam Randall (sponsored by DTS Joinery, pictured in cation above) scored his second half-century of the season finishing unbeaten on 58 from 72 balls faced and his excellent innings included six boundaries and three huge sixes.
Aycliffe remain in eighth place in the NYSD 2nd division table with 81 points from seven games played.
Saturday 25th May – NYSD Division 4
Blackhall 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was mild but with light showers. Blackhall won the toss and chose to bat first.
Blackhall 2nd XI 120 all out after 30.1 overs
Matty Greaves 4 for 8, David Robinson 3 for 25 and Harry Wright 1 for 14
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 121 for 7 after 26.3 overs
George Slatcher 31 not out, Joe Haines 20 and Dan Craggs 18
The young Aycliffe 2nd team gained a well deserved first win of the season away at Blackhall 2nds by just three wickets. Fourteen-year-old Matty Greaves (sponsored by Brittania Fire) had an excellent all round game, firstly taking four wickets for just eight runs in the Blackhall innings and then battling hard in a tense finale, scoring eight not out and helping his team to victory, Special mention must go to George Slatcher, who batted superbly under immense pressure to score a season’s best 31 not out from 67 balls to help win the match for Aycliffe.
The second team remain in eighth place in the NYSD 4th division table with 39 points from five games played.
