Match Preview – Saturday 6th September 2014
DAISY HILL versus NEWTON AYCLIFFE
New Sirs Stadium, St James’ Street. 3pm kick off
By Paul McGeary
Newton Aycliffe travel to Greater Manchester in the hope of securing only their second ever victory in the FA Vase, taking on North West Counties Division One side Daisy Hill for the first meeting in the clubs’ history.
Daisy Hill may play their football a rung below the Newtonians in the football pyramid, but sit second in the table after five league victories from their opening seven games this season.
Aycliffe will also be wary of a side that play in the same division as Holker Old Boys – who dumped them out of the FA Cup two seasons ago, while Northern League second tier side Esh Winning also scalped the Royal Blues in this same competition in 2012.
Aycliffe will travel to Bolton on the back of a crushing win against struggling Crook Town, but it must be said that Adie Webster’s side’s only two victories this season were both against the second bottom Amber & Blacks.
Richard Langthorne is suspended for the game following his sending off against Consett a fortnight ago, while fellow centre half Dan Mitton remains sidelined, as does Martin Young.
Webster must choose whether to start recent signing Zak Boagey after the former Hartlepool man scored a wonderful goal having come off the bench against Crook, or remain with Tom Atkinson as his lone forward.
