Sports students from Woodham Academy had a fantastic afternoon competing in the Year 7 and Year 8 Athletics Championships recently, which were held at Shildon Athletics Stadium.
Eleven schools from across the area competed in the event which was held over a full afternoon, so that students could experience competing at a specialist venue with excellent athletics facilities.
Woodham Academy entered boys and girls teams for both year groups and students competed in a range of events which included track events (100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m), relay, long jump, high jump, triple jump, shot putt, discus and javelin.
Notable performances came from James Imelia (2nd in 100m), Dylan Lewis (2nd in 200m), Jake Mendelshon and Lucas Pilling (2nd and 3rd in 800m) and Naomi Downing (2nd in the 100m).
Woodham Sports Academy head Liam Clough said: “All students performed to the best of their ability and were a credit to the school.
“It was a pleasure to see them enjoying the different athletics events in such a competitive spirit.”
