Tom Warke reviews his Album of the Week – Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded…
American musician Onika Tanya Maraj, or known by her stage name Nicki Minaj, was born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago, but was raised in Queens, New York.
After releasing three mixtapes between 2007 and 2009, Minaj was signed by Lil Wayne’s record label, Young Money Entertainment.
In November 2009 she released her first studio album, Pink Friday. It quickly became a commercial success, peaking at number one on the US Billboard 200, the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums and the US Billboard Rap Albums chart.
The success of Pink Friday also brought about the success of the tracks from the album itself.
Singles such as ‘Moment 4 Life’, ‘Your Love’ and ‘Check It Out’ were widely popular and added to Nicki Minaj’s growing popularity.
Throughout the album, Minaj has collaborated with some of music’s biggest talents such as Eminem, Drake, will.i.am and Kanye West.
Another big single of Minaj’s is ‘Super Bass’ which can be heard from the Deluxe Edition of the Pink Friday album.
The albums overall success was awarded by Gold Certificates in Australia and United Kingdom, however in the USA it reached Platinum status.
On 3rd April, Minaj released her second studio album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.
The album’s official lead single is ‘Starships’, a very catchy song, with a memorable chorus.
A song which is also out in the charts, ‘Turn Me On’ produced by French DJ David Guetta, will appear on the Deluxe Edition of the album.
Other notable songs from the album are ‘Pound the Alarm’ and ‘Whip It’ which charted in the UK Official Singles Top 100 Chart when the album was released.
A song to look out from Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is ‘Right By My Side’ which features Chris Brown. The song has a catchy beat and as ever from Minaj, genius lyrics. The collaboration with Chris Brown’s voice is sure to help send the song on its way up through the charts.
My favourite song from this album has to be its official single ‘Starships’. No doubt every time it’s played on the radio, at parties or clubs. people will be singing and dancing along to this great track.
Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is available to buy on iTunes for £7.99, with individual tracks available for 79p – click on the ad below to buy now
