Lucid Technology Solutions sales director Cheryl Spears offers important cybersecurity advice for businesses…
We are all at risk of cyber attacks and, for business owners, the stakes are high – both for your business data and your businesses financial well-being.
Here are five key things to consider when thinking about your cyber security.
1 Good password management
Don’t use the same password for everything. Don’t keep them written down near your device in case of theft. And don’t use traditional passwords like ‘Password1’. Because of social media, a lot of your data is out there for all to see, so avoid key dates in your passwords.
2 Update software
Installing software updates for your operating system and programs is critical. Always install the latest security updates for your devices when asked.
3 Phishing
Beware of suspicious emails and phone calls. These are emails and texts sent from what appears to be a trusted source, asking to provide confidential information. Always double check if something doesn’t seem right.
4 Back up your data
You should always back up your data on a regular basis. Most of your information will be in the cloud, but could still be subject to attack. We’d always advise to regularly copy your data offline in case the worst happens.
5 Install antivirus/anti-malware protection
It goes without saying that you need the best antivirus and anti-malware protection. Some products are fine for small businesses, but the needs for larger businesses can be more complex.
