Motorists are warned to expect some disruption as work to expand Aycliffe Business Park continues.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane on the southbound carriageway of the A167 towards junction 59 of the A1 for several weeks from Thursday January 12.
The lane closure will enable the next stage of work to create a new junction and internal link road at the site to take place.
The new junction will allow traffic, which can currently only turn left into and out of the new development, to access the site from both directions. It will also include pedestrian crossings.
Adrian White, Durham County Council’s head of transport and contract services, said: “The creation of the new junction will greatly improve access to this key strategic development site.
“Work began on the scheme last year and has caused little disruption to traffic so far, but it is now necessary to introduce the lane closure.
“Hopefully, disruption can be kept to a minimum but we would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience.”
