The young man who died after a fatal road traffic accident near Newton Aycliffe on Sunday has been formally identified by police today.
The victim was 21-year-old Kurt Oliver Etheridge, who was from the Much Dewchurch area of Hereford.
He was a serving soldier undergoing army training at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire.
Mr Etheridge died in the early hours of Sunday morning after he was hit by an articulated lorry in the South-bound carriageway of the A1 (M), three-quarters of a mile north of junction 58 near Aycliffe.
In a police statement tonight, Durham Constabulary said the coroner has been informed, and an inquest is expected to open later this week.
