Martin Young says Newton Aycliffe is a great place for him to play football – and can’t wait for the new season to start already.
The former Hartlepool United professional joined Aycliffe this week as boss Allan Oliver added him and ex-Whitley Bay winger Kris Hughes to his ranks.
Young played for West Auckland last season and aqppeared in their FA Vase Final defeat to Dunston at Wembley.
Now he’s hoping for more regular football with Aycliffe, who finished ninth in the Northern League first division last season.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” Young told Aycliffe Today this week.

“Allan (Oliver) really sold the club to me. He told me about his vision for the club and his vision for me as a goalscoring attacking midfield player.
“I just want to play regularly and this is a great place to play football. The pitch is nice and flat.
“Aycliffe are a footballing side and I’m just really looking forward to getting started.”
Young says West did well to reach the Vase Final last year, a feat achieved by a strong changing room.
“It was born out of team spirit, and Allan has told me about the team spirit here at Aycliffe,” he added.
“So I’m hoping we can have a little run ourselves next year, and who knows, it’d be nice to go to Wembley again next year!”
