Around 70 jobs are expected to be lost after the collapse of furniture firm Ness, which has a site in Newton Aycliffe.
Administrators are trying to find a buyer for the company, which was established by Fredrick Corner in 1945 and has factories on Aycliffe Business Park and Croxdale, near Spennymoor.
Ness Furniture Limited was bought in June 2013 by Sussex-based private equity investors Benula Capital Limited, but has entered administration, with 10 skeleton staff remaining with the company until a buyer is found.
Since its formation just after the Second World War, Ness had become a market-leading designer and manufacturer of bespoke furniture to a wide range of clients, including colleges, hospitals, fast food restaurants, supermarkets and betting shops.
Leeds accountancy firm Mazars has been appointed as administrators, which has said it will provide support to employees.
