Staff from one of Newton Aycliffe’s biggest employers spent the day volunteering at a well-known wellbeing centre as part of a global day of action.
Sixteen workers from 3M on Aycliffe Business Park spent seven hours at the Pioneering Care Partnership, at Cobblers Hall, as part of Global Volunteer Day.
The green-fingered grafters spent the day in the PCP garden, where they dug out weeds and cleaned pavements among other jobs.
US-owned manufacturer 3M has proudly supported a wide range of local projects during its 50 years in Aycliffe, providing more than 50 volunteers and over 536 hours of support this year alone.
Stacy Porter, of Durham University, which helps to plan Employee Supported Volunteering, said: “We’re constantly looking for charities and organisations for 3M employees to volunteer alongside which have a health and educational focus.
“This whole day has been rewarding not only for our employees as they have learned more about what PCP offer the community and also about the work of the charity.
“We know this is extremely worthwhile for local business to get involved in, not only to see the changes around them but to make their mark in a better community. It’s so beneficial for our volunteers too, as every trip is an educational one.”
Lynsey Todd, head of customer experience, added: “It’s great to see business and the community working together to improve the health, wellbeing and quality of life of individuals.
“We are hoping to build further links with local business, to support the vast array of projects and services PCP delivers.”
