Great Aycliffe Town Council has recently completed a footpath project to improve access to the children’s play area at Aycliffe Village, at the request of Aycliffe Village Residents Association.
The new access footpaths will allow greater use of the facilities throughout the year and also provide disabled access.
The project was completed with £24,600 funding provided by the Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership (GAMP) – the town’s AAP.
The tarmac paths have been designed to allow access from the three corners of the site from Millfield, Monks End and the rear of Atkinson Gardens to the play area and the basketball area.
The mayor of Great Aycliffe, Cllr Sandra Haigh, said: “The site is in a natural hollow and tends to get very waterlogged during wet weather which resulted in the play area being inaccessible to some.
“The new paths will allow access throughout the year and means the play area which was redeveloped a few years ago at considerable expense by the Town Council can be used to its full potential.”
GAMP co-ordinator Brian Riley added: “This is an excellent project which was identified by the local community and is a fantastic example of a project which GAMP has funded to improve the lives of local residents in partnership with Great Aycliffe Town Council.”
